The principal use of these calendars is to showcase work Asset VRS has facilitated throughout the previous year, and showcase their products’ ubiquity throughout the country and suitability for any application. This allows prospective customers to see how Asset’s products might work for them in future projects.
Since Asset VRS has a wide range of products offering protection in countless applications and situations images must be chosen carefully to focus on key areas. Throughout the year we photograph Asset VRS products, therefore, we amass a vast library of images we can use for this project. We visit existing long-running installations to capture the products’ necessity as work progresses; new installation night works and post-install photography to ensure we capture all stages of installation and the product in use.
We had been asked to create a new style for the calendar. They have had a rebranded logo that uses triangular points, so a lot of our designs for them have had heavy use of arrow shapes. This also correlates with the arrows you see on road signs linking in well with the common road theme. This was a great starting point for the design as we could put the new 2019 photos into an arrow shaped frame, as well as the small date blocks and the logos. We used a silver metallic spot colour to give off a “road-like” impression on the design, this was used throughout the calendar on any parts that we wanted to stand out – for example the month names.
Another design feature I added to this calendar to create a dark trend effect was duplicate the main image and extend it underneath. This made the calendar look like a full-page image with the date blocks separated by the main arrow on top of the extended image with a dark box on top. This also meant we could use white text to make the dates stand out from the page.
This item will be used for 12 months so we make sure it is produced using high-quality materials that ensure it looks its best throughout the year. Metallic silver is printed throughout the calendar, which also provides a high-value feel in common with the Asset VRS high-quality products, as well as making a trendy design feature.
SW1 prides itself in getting the right shot to portray products in the best light. When digital processing is required, however, we use the latest Photoshop software to remove blemishes, lens flares or items that couldn’t be excluded while shooting. We ensure the best look for these products by balancing colours, reducing haze and increasing clarity to make sure they look as they would in person.
